Are Humans Really That Modern Model They Proclaim?

It is sometimes amazing to me how humans in modern society try to convince themselves that they are so highly evolved and better than all the other animals on the planet. Further, people that live in first world nations claim that all the others are nothing more than tribal savages. Still, all of this begs the question of; how different is modern man really? Yes, they have an evolved brain, and we have modern jet aircraft, sewer treatment plants, medicines, and all sorts of other things.
Nevertheless, consider if you will that perhaps mankind is no different than he ever was, or only slightly different, rather he's been thrust into a new environment as an overlay. If we took humans which were living in jungles and tribes 20,000 years ago, and put them into modern societies as babies today would things really be any different? This gets to the point of nature versus nurture of course, but I'd like to take this one step further and give you a recent example.
There was an interesting article published on August 15, 2012 titled; "Cops: Teens beat man because they were just bored," by Andrew Mach, NBC News which stated; "A man in Ohio was severely beaten by six teenage boys who said they did so because they were bored, police allege. The man was walking home from the store, in Ohio with a six-pack of beer, looking forward to a quiet evening watching sports, when something hit him in the back of the head."
Indeed, everyone was shocked and outraged by this event, but it would appear to me that young men full of testosterone in groups have always acted this way throughout history. Why is anyone surprised? If they are left to their own devices these are the types of things they will do, and the individual carrying the beer was naïve to think otherwise, and he obviously wasn't paying attention to his surroundings, and didn't have any sense of situational awareness.
This doesn't alleviate the fact that a crime was done, as this is considered unacceptable in our society, but it does get back to the root major problem of nature itself. If these things happen, then perhaps it's because mankind is still an animal, underneath the guise of this modern civilization in a society that considers itself above the fray. Is it really? You see, I'm not surprised in the least that this event occurred rather I am surprised that everyone is so shocked.
It's also naïve to think that things can't get out of control in a mass mob of hysteria and the entire society breakdown, because humans are humans after all, and we are not immune to these realities no matter how much we try to sweep them under the carpet. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

Blood of Nigerian Christians

No time in the history of Nigeria has the church faced the level of persecution it is currently going through. For about 2 years now, hundreds of Christians have been killed and tens of churches destroyed. Sometimes, they are killed while in church services. The Islamic sect called Boko Haram has always claimed responsibility for all these attacks. Just last week, the Deeper Christian Life Church in Okene, Kogi State was attacked and about 20 worshippers were gunned down right in the church service. Many others who had various degrees of gun shot injuries are still lying in the hospital. Last Christmas the Catholic Church in Madalla, Niger State was bombed leaving scores of worshipers dead or maimed. The same day another church was bombed in Bauchi.
Few months ago, two churches in Bayero University Kano were attacked. Many worshippers including university professors lost their lives. Just last month, about 50 people (including women and children) who took refuge in a church were smoked out and shot. The attackers first set the church building ablaze, then stood at the entrance and were shooting these innocent women, children and old people as they tried to escape from the furnace and smoke. And we have since lost the count of the churches that have either been bombed or attacked by gunmen in Yobe, Gombe, Plateau, Kano, Bauchi, Borno, Adamawa, Kaduna and Kogi states. All in the north.
But this is not the first time the church is passing through such persecutions in the northern part of country. The differences with the present are the spate, degree and coordination of the attacks. Before now, any riot or demonstration in this part of the country will always end up in killing Christians and people from other regions. Thousands has gone this way. Amongst so many, is the case of Gideon Akaluka; who was beheaded and his head used to make show round the market. What of the young Yoruba female teacher who was slaughtered in Gombe with the flimsy excuse that she touched the Koran as she tried to stop her students from cheating in an examination. She put a call through to her husband as she saw the attackers, but could not finish before they lynched her. Her little baby was saved by good Samaritans who jumped the fence of the school to rescue him. And these are just few cases that space will allow us to pen down here.
But who is responsible for all these atrocities against Christians and humanity? What crime has the church committed? Are these executions and destruction accidental or a part of the larger plan to get rid of Christians in Nigeria? Is the current onslaught an expression of frustration by those who boasted that they will forcefully impose their belief from the desert to the sea? Has the very rapid, phenomenal and constant growth and prosperity of the church in the country, which has made nonsense of the plot and expectations angered them, hence, their resort to declaring war against the people of God?
Now, the Christians have paid enough for the peaceful co-existence of the country called Nigeria. The whole land is saturated by the blood of these innocent women, children and men whose only crime is what they believe in a secular nation that is supposed to be ruled by a constitution that has guaranteed freedom of worship and association. With the current resurgence of attacks, we urgently call on the federal government and the security agencies to step up the efforts to stop these onslaughts, unmask those behind it and bring them to book. The government, the Inspector-General of police, the army and other security agencies should see that the churches and Christians are well protected from the current unwarranted destruction. Security protection should immediately be sent to all these endangered places of worship, especially in the northern part of the country. The government must not continue to watch the citizens being slain for frivolous, dubious and satanic religious and political reasons. Enough is enough! Then, the blood of these Christian martyrs must not be in vain. Remember, like the blood of Cain, they would be crying against the murderers and the nation until justice is done.
For the attackers, you are embarking on a project that is impossible to achieve. Go and read the church history. All attempts ever made to annihilate Christianity have always ended in futility. And why? You cannot successfully fight against your creator. Jesus said that He will build His church and the gates of hell will NEVER prevail against it. The church will always mysteriously expand and prosper even at the face of persecution. True! So, I advise you and your sponsors within and without the country to keep down your arms against God and His people and embrace the gospel. Stop kicking against the STONE!
And for the church, we must not be discouraged. The word of God said that we should not fear those who can only destroy the body, but can not touch the soul. In fact, it said that we should rejoice in tribulation, for it is an indication that we belong to Christ and that the gospel is making the expected impact. The enemy -Satan is just reacting out of frustration. This is a time for us to rededicate of lives and service to God. Though, we must adopt the Nehemiah strategy now. As he and his team were re-building the ruined walls and city of Jerusalem, they also were well-prepared to fully defend themselves against the enemies. And this successfully checked the opposition until the work was completed. Let us all pray that God will change the hearts of these enemies of the church, give us peace and prosper the gospel and the country in Jesus' name - Amen!

Crime Scenes and Alternate Light Sources - Lights for Solving Crime

Over many decades, visible light sources were used during most searches of crime scenes. Although some forensic investigators would occasionally use ultraviolet (UV Black Light) to examine for crime scene evidence, white light was the mainstay. But in the 1970s the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) added a new dimension to forensic examination of physical evidence.
The "Mounties" pioneered the use of argon-ion lasers, but these expensive, cumbersome, bulky machines were impractical for use at crime scenes, so their use was limited to the crime lab.
The birth of alternate light sources
Portable lasers began to appear in the marketplace in the 1980s, but their usefulness was limited to mostly a single color of light. In the 1990s the availability of high intensity incandescent lamps slowly revolutionized alternate light source analysis of physical evidence since these machines, many weighing less than 20 pounds, could provide an intense light beam that could be passed through various filters covering from visible blue, green, yellow and red light. Using these colors enhanced the ability to reveal an abundance of what would otherwise be invisible evidence. But one element is still missing.
What is fluorescence?
Merely shining a blue or other visible color light onto an object in and of itself does not show us much. You see, certain materials possess a property called fluorescence. Fluorescence occurs when light of a certain color and light frequency strikes an object, and the object returns light of a different color and frequency. This fluorescence is much weaker in intensity than the light beam that created it, so to visualize the fluorescence, the crime scene technician must use filtration that blocks the visible light but passes the fluorescence. For example: if the visible light beam is blue light, the filter must be orange in color. This blocks the intense blue light but passes the weak fluorescence.
UV light, on the other hand, is invisible, but it produces visible fluorescence from certain objects and substances. No filtration is required to view UV fluorescence, but eye protection in the form of clear glass or plastic lenses is recommended.
Detecting hidden blood stains in crime scenes
If you watch many of the TV "Cop" shows, you will see at some point those working a crime scene using a blue light in search of invisible blood (blood stains that were cleaned up). Shazam! Blue-white stains appear all over the floors, walls and objects sitting around the crime scene! But in reality-this cannot happen. You see, blood does not fluoresce by applying UV or visible blue light. Blood, even minute quantities that remain after clean-up, can be made to luminesce; that is, by spraying certain chemicals such as Luminol on the various surfaces, blood will luminesce, or simply "glow in the dark"-and adding blue light is not necessary.
So what can alternate light sources reveal?
Although blood does not fluoresce, certain other physiological fluids will. UV alternate light sources can reveal the following: seminal fluid, saliva and urine stains. Also, certain narcotics will fluoresce as will bone and teeth fragments.
Other uses of alternate light sources
Indeed, many forms of physical evidence will fluoresce. But modern science has resulted in the development of chemicals that "make" objects fluoresce. When using fluorescent chemicals, latent fingerprint development can be greatly improved. Fluorescent latent print powders have the ability to make the latent residue on a surface fluoresce. The benefit here is that the ridges fluoresce brightly and when photographed, a multi-colored or confused background can be minimized to the point where it does not show up in photographs. Fluorescent liquids are used to develop latent prints on porous surfaces such as paper and cardboard. Fluorescent dyes are used to enhance latent prints developed using superglue fuming.
The use of alternate light sources provides a highly practical and efficient means of locating physical evidence at crime scenes. The invention and perfection of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) has further advanced evidence recovery since even 1 and 3 watt LEDs can be installed in small, hand-held flashlights, and their performance is remarkable.

Don't Ever Think You Can't Be a Victim

A violent Crime every 17 seconds! A woman raped every 45 seconds in the United States! One in every four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. 15% of domestic violence victims are men.
Police Officers, the military and a few select civilians are trained to carry and use firearms. These fine people are trained to recognize the need for lethal intervention and when required will not hesitate. This training and lack of hesitation is what keeps them safe, but carries a heavy burden when used. The killing of another human being is not something that is easy to live with. For that reason non-lethal defense weapons are legal in all states. Not all weapons are legal in every state, but every state has some form of non-lethal defense weapon legal for the average citizen. These weapons consist of TASERS©, Stun Guns, and variants of Pepper Spray or MACE©.
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics some crime is declining, but these numbers change from day to day and city to city. Economy, environment and weather, as well as personal situations all have an effect. Some of these statistics are as follows:
17 out of every 1000 people will be involved in a violent crime.124 out of every 1000 households will incur a property crime.1.4 of every 1000 violent crimes (8%) will include a firearm.70% of all violent crimes against women were committed by a known offender, 26% by an intimate offender.45% of all violent crimes against men were committed by a known offender, 5% by an intimate offender.Approximately 40% of violent crimes were reported to police, and 50% of property crimes were reported to police.
Everybody is a possible victim, whether you are a man, woman or child. You can be abducted, beaten, raped or robbed inside your home, workplace on the street or in your car. If this shocks you, good, because everybody should know that they could be a victim. Most of us take normal precautions to secure our home, and when we travel outside of our house. We lock our doors, don't talk to strangers, and keep in contact with friends and relatives. Somehow that isn't always enough. Arming every citizen and giving them a "carry permit" is not the answer either. The average adult does not want to bring lethal harm on another individual. Even in a fit of rage an untrained person will hesitate before firing a weapon at an attacker. Weapons in untrained hands can be more dangerous than no weapon at all.
What do we do? First and foremost is to prevent the crime from happening. Secondly we must report all crimes, remembering you were the victim, so you have nothing to be ashamed of. Reporting all crimes give the law enforcement agencies a better data base to work from. Also with more crimes reported, more funding will be available for increases in Police Officers and the tools they need. Finally carry a weapon that can be used without hesitation, as it is not lethal.
Preventing crime is everybody's responsibility. Get to know your neighbors and the people you work with. Communicate anything suspicious and watch each other's property. Protect your house with proper surveillance cameras, dead bolt locks, door braces and home security alarms. You can set up Camera surveillance, home alarms and new locks on your home all for $1200 to $3500, and usually recover some of this in reduced insurance costs. Travel when possible through safe neighborhoods on known roads with your doors locked and walk in well lite areas. Carry protective self-defense weapons such as pepper spray a stun gun or TASER©. These weapons are relatively inexpensive, especially when they protect you from rape or injury.
Finally whether you are involved or suspect a violent crime about to happen, your best defense is to run away and call the police. If you use pepper Spray or a stun device, after you have used it, run away. Do not try to hang around to get identification or tie the suspect up, as there may be an accomplice nearby. The effects of non-lethal pepper spray, stun guns or a TASER©only last for a while, so use that time to escape. Be smart, be safe!

Mace and Pepper Spray for Personal Protection

The current economic recession and downturn have made crime and violence more and more prevalent. Police forces, strapped for cash, don't have the same resources as before. This means that the police are less effective at stopping and preventing crime. Personal protection and the protection of your family are increasingly up to you, and how prepared you are will determine how safe you ultimately are.
While you will need to be more responsible for your personal protection, that doesn't mean you need to go out and buy a gun or train yourself extensively in self-defense in order to feel safe. While those skills are valuable, something as simple as a canister of pepper spray or a mace pepper baton can fend off almost all petty assailants and attackers.
Mace and pepper spray are carried by people from all demographics and all walks of life. Women find that these sprays are effective self-defense products for preventing and combating sexual assaults and date rape. Children carry them to protect against predators and unsolicited strangers with nefarious intentions. Don't think that mace and pepper spray are not right for you simply because hollywood or other societal paradigms say so. In fact, they are carried by people male or female, young or old.
A key mistake people make is that they may think that a crime won't happen to them because of who they are, where they live, how they act, how they look, or because they have never been targeted before. This is the wrong notion to have. Not doing anything to protect yourself against a potential attack is something that criminals can sniff out and detect easily. Keeping pepper spray and mace on you will not only keep you prepared for such an encounter, but it will also keep you on your toes, alert, and conscious of your surroundings. These characteristics, once projected, will also help to warn potential criminals that you have taken precautionary measures and make you less of a target. This confidence can be an effective deterrent in being singled out by a criminal.
Another common misconception is that mace and pepper spray are not effective for defending yourself. Make no mistake about it: mace and pepper spray are potent self-defense products. These sprays shoot chemicals that temporarily incapacitate the assailant by inducing tears, coughing, choking, temporary blindness, and pain. A quick squirt of mace or pepper spray will leave you with enough time to escape the situation safely and without harm. These products will leave you feeling proud of being in charge of your personal protection.
Mace and Pepper Spray are perfect self-defense options to consider if you are too queasy to own a gun but feel unprotected without some type of protection. Don't risk the safety and well-being of you and your loved ones. These small defensive sprays are portable, accessible, and require little to no training to use. Simply snap them on your key ring, hang them from your clothing, or place them in an accessible part of your bags or purses. If you have ever sprayed any other type of spray container, activating any of these products will be a piece of cake. Some people spend a fortune on acquiring guns and years of their lives on self-defense classes. For a low price, you can gain protection from personal crimes for a fraction of the time of learning self-defense and a fraction of the cost of owning a gun. Sign up and buy pepper spray and mace pepper batons for you and all your loved ones today.
